Back to where we started ~ ‘The Long Haul’ by Jeff Kinney #Review #COYER #BPRAT

The Long Haul by Jeff KinneyMrs. Heffley has decided that the family is going on a road trip…to Disney World! Of course baby brother Manny is the only one upset that they aren’t going to visit Aunt Loretta in the nursing home. And really, Greg would just rather spend the day at a water park nearby. But Mom insists on a week of family bonding time, so they are all packed into the mini van and head off listening to Spanish language DVDs and playing learning games. Great. After a few (!!) mishaps, the plan is chucked out of the window. Having no plan doesn’t change their fortunes, but it does allow for a memorable week, from bubblegum in the sunroof to a pig bite to Rodrick having only one shoe, it will make you think almost fondly of any road trip you have ever taken.

A very long time ago I read my daughter’s copy of the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I have seen all of the movies, and I love how true-to-life they are. The Long Haul is no different. From the well-meaning mom to the brother playing tricks, you’ll reflect on your family vacations and grin with evil pleasure as you think about ones you’ll inflict on your own kids.

  1. A few years ago when there was only around 4 books out I gave it to my 10 year old cousin who enjoyed reading, he really liked it, I’ve vowed to always read it, but I really must get to it. It’d be a quick read but with so many books on my TBR I just never got the chance, we did a lot of family holidays cos we’ve got a large family this would really trigger some memories.
