Feature and Follow Friday 1.11.2013

Welcome to my post for Feature and Follow Friday. This meme is the brainchild of Alison at Alison Can Read and Rachel at Parajunkee.

Each week, in addition to a question to answer, one of the previous week’s participants will be randomly selected by each host for an interview (hence the Feature portion of the meme). This week’s featured bloggers are Never Too Fond of Books and The Haunting of Orchid Forsythia.

Here’s this week’s question:

If you could chose one supernatural being/creature to really exist, what would it be and why? Ex.: fae {Submitted by @SeeingNight}

When I was a kid, I was totally into witches. I loved to read books about being able to do spells, fly in the sky on a broom and have a familiar. The library thought I only needed to read those books at a certain time of the year, but once I found where they stored the Halloween books, I checked them out year-round. Reading Harry Potter totally brought back all of those memories, yet they were wizards (in the olden days in books, only boys were wizards. See how far we’ve come?). Since then, I have read books about vampires, fae, werewolves, shape-shifters, ghosts, nephilim, demons, skinwalkers, gods, poltergeists, revenants, hellhounds, bain sidhes (banshees), reapers, chupacabras, sirens, dragons/draki, wraiths and sprites to name a few (!).

So which would I want to really exist? Let’s look at this logically.

  • I doubt that vampires would be sweet and sparkly, though they might be slightly apologetic whilst nibbling on your femoral artery.
  • Everything I’ve read about the true Fae describe them as loving to toy with humans with zero remorse. No thanks.
  • I’ll quickly cross werewolves off the list for obvious reasons. They are so messy and stinky, y’all.
  • Shape-shifters would be super cool, though what wouldn’t be cool is having them impersonate your significant other. Or maybe…
  • Ghosts and wraiths: nah. Potential to be too scary. Plus you can’t talk to them without everyone who CAN’T see them thinking you’re mental.
  • If Nephilim existed, wouldn’t that mean that the scary things they protect us from would have to as well? I mean, otherwise, what would they do all day? Draw runes on each other? Play with their swords (yes, I said it)?
  • I’ll say a quick “no thanks” to demons. Too smelly, bitey and killy.
  • Skinwalkers, poltergeists, hellhounds, bain sidhes, chupacabras and sirens are a bunch of party ruiners. Who wants a group of haters who’ll either possess, inhabit, trick, scream at, chomp or beguile (to death) your guests?
  • Even though they are strong, smart and lethal, gods are also capricious and volatile and have big egos. N to the O.
  • I have read only one story involving revenants (I think). To be honest, it’s a little creepy, am I right? Plus it seems painful and annoying to have to die over and over again.
  • Would it be cool or disturbing to have a reaper around? I think it would be OK if it were like Charley Davidson, where she’s a light that shows the way vs. Croak where all they’d have to do it touch you and *poof* you’re gone.
  • Dragons: too fire-breathy. Also, I imagine after gnawing on bones all day, they’d need a mint. And have you seen the size (and price) of dragon mints?
  • I think sprites fall under the Fae category and are mean with a side of petulant. They think they’re all that and a bag of bark chips.

So looks like it is down to three: witches/wizards (’cause this is my post, so I can lump them together), nephilim (’cause they’re hot) and shape-shifters (’cause that’s almost as cool as being able to turn invisible). Well, I can’t decide. Hey, since I’ve made it this far, now it’s your turn. Which of these last three would you like to have around?

    1. Howdy! Thanks for taking time to come by my blog. I appreciate your commenting, too!

Yeah, I think any being that can suck you in and you lose all control would be the worst. You can’t outrun something if you don’t know you need to!

  1. Shapeshifters, definitely. Witches/wizards I group in the fantasy category, and nephilim… not really. Shapeshifters are cool — if I had one for a friend, they’d do all the stuff I don’t want to do. And they could pull it off because they’re shapeshifters who could look exactly like me if they wanted. If they weren’t my friend… I don’t really have a reputation TO ruin. They’d still make me infamous, and I’d have achieved my life goal of being remembered.

Anyways, cool post. Cool blog. New follower. 🙂
