Feature and Follow Friday BadgeWelcome to my post for Feature and Follow Friday. This meme is the brainchild of Alison at Alison Can Read and Rachel at Parajunkee’s View.

Each week, in addition to a question to answer, one of the previous week’s participants will be randomly selected by each host for an interview (hence the Feature portion of the meme). This week’s featured bloggers are Book Sniffers Anonymous and Insightful Minds Reviews.

Here’s this week’s question:

Tell us about the most emotional scene you’ve ever read in a book and how did you react?

You guys really come up with some thought-provoking questions…

Lots of books make me cry…The Fault in Our StarsThe Perks of Being a WallflowerThe Hunger Games. But the one that has stuck with me most over the years?

Book Cover By the Shores of Silver Lake by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I remember reading By the Shores of Silver Lake by Laura Ingalls Wilder. All the Little House books were so huge when I was a kid. Of all the series, this is the only one that I read once and never read again. SPOILER ALERT, everyone dies or gets sick or goes blind. Or gets sick AND goes blind. Well, OK, not everyone, but Jack, the stalwart Jack Russell, dies and Mary, the well-behaved eldest sister gets scarlet fever and loses her sight. On top of that, they cut off all of Mary’s beautiful blonde hair while she’s ill and Laura is shocked and says she looked just like a <gasp!> boy. Every volume had their ups and downs, but this one was such a downer that I skipped over it every time.

What about you?

  1. Oh you are right Mary going blind and Jack dying, this book was a mood killer! Then again so was The Long Hard Winter! Still loved these books as a child though and the TV show as well.
