It all started with revenge.
The Low Down: It may be called Hope Park Progressive School, but there are still all of the strata from popular to unpopular (no progress there). Hoping to humiliate resident Queen Bee/mean girl Bethany, Sophie comes up with a fool-proof plan: incapacitate Bethany, don a red wig, then go meet Mr. Mysterious at Bethany’s pre-planned rendezvous. What Sophie didn’t plan on was meeting her ex. That she didn’t even know she had.
Things are starting to get weird. Sophie starts to have flashes of information; her best guy friend, Theo, says he can’t tell her anything; and Kai, Mr. Mysterious, says she has to remember for herself. But it’s all Greek to her. Literally. From her true identity, to the story of her death and rebirth and what could happen to humanity if she doesn’t “fix” everything, it’s almost more than a high schooler can take. And she still has to go to class.
Best Thang ‘Bout It: As I said recently in another review, I LOVE Greek myths, so I was thrilled that this story was crammed full of Hades, Zeus and the rest. What makes it more fun is the humor and snark that it liberally poured over each chapter.
I’m Cranky Because: Even by the end, I do not understand Kai’s attraction to Bethany. I mean, other than the beauty. And attitude. Whatever.
The Bottom Line: A fun book that is full of action, adventure, smartassery and some pretty decent kissing.
