Did anyone see the clever, clever marketing scheme that took the Twitter book world by storm today? The cover was announced for Cassandra Clare’s last installment to The Infernal Devices series (Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince are the first two books). I happened to see a tweet about the new cover art being revealed today for Clockwork Princess along with a link. Clicking on the link, there was a large space that showed clouds traveling across it…then…a few pixels here and there? On the left of the picture was a count that showed how many people had tweeted the #ClockworkPrincess so far. Wow – apparently, the more that hashtag was tweeted, the more of the cover that was shown. Clever!
It seemed to take no time at all for the numbers to go from 751 (when I tweeted) to when I checked later at 5:15 to 68,682 tweets! I had originally tweeted at 2:30, less than three hours earlier! That is incredible.
Maybe the marketing of The Hunger Games movie has inspired books as well. From what I read, that plan started more than a year out from the release of the movie. Clockwork Princess is scheduled to be out March 19, 2013.
