Courtney, also known as Stiletto Storytime, has offered this mini-challenge up for the second day of the read-a-thon:
[S]hare a foreign author whose work you adore. I personally am from the United States but we may have readers from all over so just make sure the author you share is from a country other than your own. Tell us why you like them. Are there any books by them in particular that you would recommend? How did you come across their work? The whole point is to share and allow us all to discover a new author that we might otherwise never have been exposed to..to literally open up a whole new world of books for one another.
What a cool idea! I have recently found two German authors whose work has been translated to English. They both have YA titles.
I don’t know how I found this book, but most likely, it was recommended on Goodreads or via a blog I follow. It is called The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis. I just read this book recently (see my full review here) and now I consider it to be one of the best books I have read. If you follow me on Goodreads, you may notice that I don’t hand out 5-star reviews that often. I reserve that distinction for books that affect me, well, for a long time. Ms. Michaelis has written other books, but this is the only one I have read.
Another book that I really like a lot is a series that was first published in Germany in 2009. Published in the US in 2011, Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier is the story of a family that has the “time-travel” gene. In order to have it, you need to be born on a certain date. In Gwyneth’s family, that distinction falls to her beautiful and talented cousin, Charlotte. Since the day Charlotte arrived in this world, she has been training for the inevitable shift to another time. Which means, lots of history lessons, fencing lessons, riding lessons…lessons. As Charlotte waits, Gwyneth starts to exerience weird roller-coaster feelings and changes. Could there have been a mistake? Does Gwyneth have the gene?
I am eagerly awaiting the relese of book two called Sapphire Blue. It is due to be released October 30, 2012. You can order yours from Amazon now!
